Learning About Takeaways With Whaea Gina

Yesterday, Whaea Gina was teaching us about how much oil and fat are in takeaway foods like Mcdonalds, KFC and Carl’s Jr. Did you know Carl’s Jr is the most unhealthiest restaurant in New Zealand? There are fourteen teaspoons of oils with each burger and chips! Sushi has the least oil with only ¾ of a teaspoon. The most surprising one for me was fish and chips. There is 9 ½ teaspoons with every piece of fish and a scoop of chips. The purpose of this is to teach kids about what they are putting into their bodies and if it is healthy or not.

Te Wiki O Te Reo Māori

This week, our school has been celebrating Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori by playing games, listening to cool stories and singing songs so we can keep Te Reo Māori alive in New Zealand. We have been celebrating this on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with 3 new rotations each day. We all missed one rotation because there were ten. I had fun learning about Te Reo Māori. I learnt heaps about Māori names for months of the year. We did this in our house groups. I was in Kowhāi.
